The Eyes Have It

Many say that the eyes are the window to the soul, I say that every window needs a good frame. This is where mascara comes into play. Whether lengthening, volumizing, defining or curling; mascara is hailed as one of the most essential beauty tools.

With an expansive pool of mascaras to choose from, the decision of which to buy can be overwhelming. Drugstore favorites from Covergirl and Maybelline have been praised by many beauty magazines, but with new and increasingly expensive mascaras being launched what seems like every day, the temptation to spend those extra dollars is almost impossible to resist.

I will admit that I’ve never been a fan of budget-friendly mascaras, perhaps unfairly given that I’ve never really tried them either. That is, until now…

For this post I chose to compare Covergirl’s LashBlast with my current mascara of choice, Lise Watier’s 24 HRS Glam Mascara.

Lise Watier 24 HRS Glam Mascara
retails for approx. $21
Covergirl LashBlast
retails for approx. $8.99

After curling my lashes, I applied two coats of LashBlast to my left eye and two coats of 24 HRS Glam Mascara to my right. After several failed attempts to capture the results, and a few more reconfigurations of the zoom button, I finally managed to capture these two photographic gems.

Lise Watier                                                    Covergirl

As you can see, neither looks terrible; my dark circles, on the other hand, could use some work. The Lise Watier mascara offered a bit more length while the Covergirl contender gave better separation. Both mascaras also lasted well into the night; neither mascara had any noticeable flaking, despite the fact that I was rubbing my eyes all day (a lovely effect of the exhaustion that Thursdays bring).

Ironically, the slight differences between the two mascaras made the winner even more obvious. With results that rivals those of a prestige brand, Covergirl’s LashBlast offers high impact at a low price. Even better, there are always coupons to be found for Covergirl products; which means you can save even more money for the necessities, like new shoes. The verdict: save.

  2. I agree with Pam! I tried Lashblast when it first came out, and have never turned back. Glad to know it's comparable to the more expensive brands.
